Growing up in Australia I have vivid memories of watching the Kona Ironman every year in and late 80's and 90's thinking how amazing it would be to be at a fitness level great enough to someday race in it.  It took me 36 years to commit to the sport of triathlon, completing 2 sprint triathlons last year and  I am hooked.
Outside of Kona, the must do race on most triathletes list is Escape from Alcatraz in San Francisco. The race consists of a 1.5 mile swim from Aclatraz Island to the mainland, an 18 mile bike ride through the hilly streets of San Francisco and an 8 mile run around the coastline from Crissy Field to Baker Beach.
I have the opportunity to participate in this race in 2014 having partnered up with Livestrong to raise cancer awareness and have pledged to raise $2000 to help cancer survivors.  In return Livestrong is buying me a  spot at the starting line next June.
Why Livestrong?
Cancer took a close friend growing up and while 20 years have passed I intend to run this race in her honor and keep her memory alive on all future swim bike runs.

The money I raise will support programs and services for cancer survivors. These resources help people diagnosed with cancer face the challenges of the disease head on and live life on their own terms. Please support me as I make a difference in the cancer fight through my participation in Team LIVESTRONG. Thank you!
